ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਰੰਧਾਵਾ ਹਾਕੀ ਦਾ ਮਹਾਨ ਫੁੱਲ ਬੈਕ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੀਨ ਦੀ ਕੰਧ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। 1978 ਦੀਆਂ ਏਸ਼ਿਆਈ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਸਮੇਂ ਇਕ ਕੁਮੈਂਟੇਟਰ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਥੋਂ ਤਕ ਕਹਿ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਦੀ ਟੀਮ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਦਾ ਫੁੱਲ ਬੈਕ ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ। ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ `ਕੱਲਾ ਹੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਟੀਮ ਨੂੰ ਡੱਕੀ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ!

ਡੀਗੋ ਮਾਰਾਡੋਨਾ ਅਰਜਨਟੀਨਾ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਸੀ। ਗਰੀਬ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਅਮੀਰ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ। ਉਹ ਫੁੱਟਬਾਲ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਦਾ ਸਰਬੋਤਮ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਸਿੱਧ ਹੋਇਆ। ਜਦ ਉਹਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਬਾਲ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਡ੍ਰਿਬਲਿੰਗ ਕਰਦਾ ਉਹ ਦਰਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੰਗ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ। ਉਹਦਾ ਕੱਦ ਬੇਸ਼ਕ ਸਮੱਧਰ ਸੀ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ 5 ਫੁੱਟ 5 ਇੰਚ, ਪਰ ਫੁੱਟਬਾਲ ਦੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਧਨੰਤਰ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਸੀ।
ਭਾਰਤੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੇਬਾਜ਼ ਵਿਜੈਵੀਰ ਸਿੱਧੂ ਨੇ ਅੱਜ ਇੱਥੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ 25 ਮੀਟਰ ਰੈਪਿਡ-ਫਾਇਰ ਪਿਸਟਲ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿਖਰਲਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਈਐੱਸਐੱਸਐੱਫ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਕੱਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੌਥਾ ਸੋਨ ਤਗ਼ਮਾ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਵਿਜੈਵੀਰ ਨੇ ਘੱਟ ਸਕੋਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰ ਰੋਮਾਂਚਕ ਫਾਈਨਲ ਦੇ ਅੱਠ ਸੀਰੀਜ਼ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ 29 ਅੰਕ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੇ।

ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸ਼ਟਲਰ ਐੱਚਐੱਸ ਪ੍ਰਣੌਏ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਜ ਇੱਥੇ ਬੈਡਮਿੰਟਨ ਏਸ਼ੀਆ ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨਸ਼ਿਪ ਦੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਸਿੰਗਲਜ਼ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੀਨ ਦੇ ਜ਼ੂ ਗੁਆਂਗ ਲੂ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਿਆ। ਲੈਅ ਲੱਭਣ ਲਈ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਣੌਏ ਇੱਕ ਘੰਟਾ ਅੱਠ ਮਿੰਟ ਤੱਕ ਚੱਲੇ ਮੈਚ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੀਨੀ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਤੋਂ 16-21, 21-12, 11-21 ਨਾਲ ਹਾਰ ਗਿਆ।
“ਗੁਰਬਚਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਤਕੜਾ ਅਥਲੀਟ ਸੀ, ਓਨਾ ਹੀ ਤਕੜਾ ਗਾਲੜੀ”।
ਇਹ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਫਿਕਰਾ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਰਸਾਲੇ ‘ਆਰਸੀ’ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਦੇ ਪਲੇਠੇ ਰੇਖਾ ਚਿੱਤਰ `ਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ। ਦੂਜਾ ਫਿਕਰਾ ਸੀ, “ਉਹ ਇਕੋ ਸਾਹ ਛੜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੌਕ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਓਲੰਪਿਕ ਦੀ ਫਾਈਨਲ ਦੌੜ ਤੱਕ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।”
